![]() A little over a decade ago a friend and I began playing a format we called “classic”, the goal of the format was to resemble what we played back in the mid-nineties. Back then we focused on acquiring more “fun” cards than power nine as the opportunity to come up with the kind of money you need for high-value cards and even finding someone to buy/trade them from was rare, so when we did have the opportunity we bought and traded for cards with more interesting abilities such as Forcefield, Diamond Valley, and Mirror Universe. To that extent this format bans most of the power nine. Rather than focusing on raw speed and power of the early magic competitive decks that the 93/94 and oldskool formats offer. This format is focused on play built around some of the more interesting cards of the early magic days. Other than the power nine, the ban and restricted list is very close to the list from 1995/1996. Since “classic” is referred to by most magic players as an online format with a different meaning we have opted to rename the format to “Nostalgic”. |
